What is Good Governance?
- In international development, good governance is a way of measuring how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources in a preferred way. Governance is “the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented”.
Punjab bags 10th rank in NITI AAYOG’ s SDG index report 2019 – 20.
- Punjab has a score of 60 among the states.
- Whereas India’s overall score is 57 in The same index of last year. ( Which had 13 goals covering 62 indicators ).
Whereas this year’s index is based on 17 goals under 100 indicators.
Punjab has done well in certain areas such as:-
- Open Defecation Free status – districts verified to ODF status improved from 41% to 91% ( approximately).
- Internet subscribers – ( per hundred population), have grown from 53% to 84%.( Appx.)
- Houses completed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY) – less than 1% to 28% ( appx).
- Wards with 100% door to door waste collection- from 66% to 97% ( appx).
- Children under 5 stunting – from 25.7 % to 24.3 %.
- But, there are some areas where the decline has been observed.
- Employment under MGNREGA – decrease from 82 % to 76% ( appx).
- Sex ratio at birth – has declined from 893 to 886.
- Reported cognisable crimes against children ( 1 lakh population) – has increased from 21 to 24.3
