About Ferozepur:-
- Firozpur, also known as Firojpur or Ferozepur, is a city on the banks of the Sutlej River in Firozpur District, Punjab, India.
- It was founded by Sultan Firoz Shah Tughluq, a ruler of the Tughluq dynasty, who reigned over the Sultanate of Delhi from 1351 to 1388.
Issues with the city of Ferozepur:-
- Lack of employment and business opportunities.
- The exodus of youth to foreign countries.
- Closing or Hussainiwala – Lahore border, which used to be the lifeline of the city.
- It was closed after the 1971 war.
- Creation of Fazilka as a new district has further dented its economic prospects.
- The tourism sector also faced immense problems as historic monuments are facing neglect.
- The places such as Anglo – Sikh war museum, Saragarhi memorial etc were facing neglect.
What steps can be taken:-
- A submission could be undertaken to revive the town by allotting more finances to the district.
- Agricultural diversification measures should be stepped up.
- World-class resorts and hotels to shore up tourism sector.
- Quality Universities and educational institutions to attract more youth.
- Better hospitals and healthcare for the people.
- Better governance by promoting digital governance.
- Proper water and sanitation services through Swachh Bharat Mission.
- Better policing through Technologically sound equipment and training of the forces.
