1) News:- Punjab Scientist honoured
Gagandeep Kang hailing from Samrala in Ludhiana district has made history by getting elected to the Royal Society( a league of Scientists).
About Gagandeep Kang:-
- She is the first women working in India to be elected in Royal Society.
- She played a pioneering role in the development of various vaccines especially the ROTAVAC for Rotavirus, for preventing children die from diarrhoea.
- She is known for her interdisciplinary research on transmission, development and prevention of enteric infection.
What is Fellow of the Royal Society?
- It is an award granted to individuals that the London Royal Society bestows for the contribution in the field of natural knowledge including Maths, Engineering and Medical Science.
- It is based in the UK.
- Scientists like Newton, Charles Darwin, Srinivasa Ramanujan had also received it.
- Every year around new 51 fellows get elected from the UK and Common Wealth of nations.
2) News:- Pakistan and India have agreed on cooperation on the issue of Kartarpur Corridor
- Pakistan has agreed to allow around 5000 pilgrims to travel visa-free daily.
- Overseas Citizen of India(OCI) will be allowed to use the corridor.
About the Kartarpur Corridor:-
- It is proposed border corridor between neighbouring nations of India and Pakistan.
- It will connect the Sikh shrines of Dera Baba Nanak(Gurdaspur district) and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, also called Kartarpur Sahib, is a gurdwara in Kartarpur, Narowal District, Pakistan.
- Kartarpur is located 4.7 KM from the border.
- In 1999, former PM late Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee had promoted this corridor.
- On 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Ji, it is planned to get operational.
