1)News:- Punjab Government inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Context:- The MoA was signed, in the presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, by UNDP Resident Representative Ms Shoko Noda and Punjab Government Principal Secretary Planning Jaspal Singh.Goals (SDGs).
Agenda:-
- Under the agreement, a Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) would be set up in the Planning Department with UNDP’s support. CM asks Employment Generation Dept to collaborate with UNDP to explore new avenues.
Purpose:-
- This Centre is set up in partnership with the UNDP would help State Government deliver on the SDGs by working on the five components — Integrated Strategic Planning and Implementation, Awareness and Capacity Building, SDG localization, Resource Mobilization and Partnerships and Monitoring and Evaluation.
Vision:-
- The MoA would result in the integration of administrative departments to ensure sustainable and holistic development of the state.
- Citizen-centric schemes and development-oriented programmes in a time-bound manner.

2)News:- Punjab Governor V.P. Singh Badnore on Tuesday administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman and members of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) in the presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

About Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC):-
- The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), established in April 1937, is the oldest Provincial Public Service Commission of Pakistan. It was established under the Government of India Act, 1935 and presently It is functioning in accordance with the ambit of Punjab Public Service Commission Ordinance, 1978 and Punjab Public Service Commission (Functions) Rules, 1979.
About the State Public Service Commission:-
- The Government of India Act, 1935 provided for the establishment of the Public Service Commission at the Provincial level known as the State Public Service Commission and the constitution of India gave it a constitutional status as autonomous bodies. The State Public Service Commissions were constituted under the provisions of the Constitution of India.
Appointment of Chairman and its members in State Public Service Commission:-
- A State Public Service Commission (SPSC) comprises of a chairman and other members appointed by the governor of the state.
Removal:-
- Governor can appoint and President can remove (On the report of Supreme Court).

3)News:- State may see a surge in vector-borne diseases: Experts
- 117 dengue, 500 malaria cases reported in hospitals so far.
Report:-
- According to the latest report prepared by the Health Department, the cases of vector-borne diseases have already started coming to the hospitals. So far, a total of 117 confirmed cases of dengue and around 500 malaria cases have already been reported. Besides, several chikungunya cases have also surfaced.
Cause:-
- Health experts feel that since the state has already been badly hit by the floods, so it provides conducive conditions for mosquito breeding.
- Dr Rakesh Sehgal, head, Department of Parasitology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, said floods often leave behind a lot of water, which becomes a fertile ground for mosquito breeding.
WHO words:-
- Floods can potentially increase the transmission of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue and dengue haemorrhagic fever, yellow fever, and West Nile fever.
Challenges:-
- Health Department has always lambasted the Local Bodies and Rural Development Departments for not cooperating in dengue-control efforts.
Last year result:-
- 2018 proved as one of the worst years when it comes to dengue as more than 15,000 cases were reported.

4)News:- Management and Staff disputes to be decided by Educational Tribunal.
Context:-
- Punjab and Haryana High Court have ruled that all disputes between the management and employees would lie with the tribunal. The only exception was cases involving gratuity under the Payment of Gratuity Act.
The petition filed:-
- The ruling by Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi came on two petitions by Suresh Sharma and other petitioners against the state government and other respondents. The issue was whether the tribunal was created only to redress the grievance of employees belonging to aided and unaided institutions subjected to punishment or termination of service.
Verdict:-
- Justice Sethi asserted the acceptance of petitioner’s arguments that the employees would approach the tribunal only in case of dismissal, removal or a reduction in rank would lead to an anomalous situation.
