In the backdrop of International Mother Language Day on 22 nd February, this step was taken by the Punjab government.

Government institutions.
Semi government institutions.
Boards and corporations to have all the signboards in the Punjabi language.
All milestones along state Highways would also be painted in Gurmukhi script.
Higher education and Language department have issued these orders under Section 4 of the Punjab State Language Act 1967.
If the need arises, other languages could also be included ( but in smaller font).
These regulations will not apply to the National Highways and various Union Government departments.
The department has also written to the Labour department to implement this scheme in private businesses, industrial and educational establishments.
Besides, the government should include Punjabi language studies in a unique way in schools and colleges ( using games, video lectures ) etc.
The entertainment industry can also play a role in this by using more Punjabi vocabulary.
Parents and relatives have a vital role to play in this as the way they converse and interact have an everlasting impact on the children.
