News:-Punjab govt equips disabled women to run e-rickshaws, support their families.

 

Important:-

• Hoshiarpur district, which is the first district of Punjab that has launched a women e-rickshaw driver project.

 

Safety of Women Driver:-

• For safety and security, all the women’s e-rickshaws would be equipped with GPS-enabled systems, and their location can be monitored any time from the control room.
• These e-rickshaws will be run within the city area.
• All women have also been given mobile phones so that they can connect with each other and with the administration easily.

 

Who has launched this project?

• Department of Industries & Commerce.

News:- Shree Saini,  a Punjab born Indian American, receives the World Peace Prize.

• The award was given by Passion Vista Magazine in Los Angeles.
• The prize is awarded to people from all walks of life, who contribute towards the betterment of society.
• She was crowned Miss World America Washington.
• She is an anti-bullying activist.
• At the age of 12, she had suffered facial burns and also underwent heart surgery.

News:- Customs department starts its first dog training centre in Attari.

• The dog squad would be given the training to detect narcotics.
• After Pulwama attacks, trade with Pakistan has got suspended but trade with Afghanistan is still on.
• Afghanistan trucks pass through Lahore. So, many narcotics, fake currency and other things often pass through the Wagah border.
• This is the first canine centre in the country.
• The customs department would train at least 286 canines to be deployed at 200 places across the country.
• Right now, only 17 trained dogs are there.
•  Labrador and Cocker spaniel has great smelling power and they are getting training for detecting narcotics and other things.
• Besides, Full Body Truck Scanner ( FBTS) at Integrated Check post is not working, which is a must.

• Punjab Police has started a monthly appreciate-and-commend scheme.

 

Aim:-

• To recognise top performers in the force and encourage personnel to give their best at work.

 

How performance will be rated?

• Performance of these personnels was rated outstanding in policing areas, such as action against terrorists and gangsters, the arrest of proclaimed, offenders, drug seizures, property forfeiture in drug cases, spreading awareness, against drugs, investigation of sensitive cases, community policing and police station management.

 

How it will help?

• The scheme motivated personnel to excel in their job.
