Topic: Health Infrastructure.
News: Patiala’s mother and child care unit lies in abeyance.
- The centre in Rajindra hospital at Patiala cuts a sorry figure as it is not being put to use.
The reasons are:-
- Infrastructural shortcomings.
- The dearth of oxygen supply.
- Lack of proper air conditioning system.
- 60 crore was spent to construct the new facilities in the hospital in 2017.
- Only a few rooms on the ground floor were being used.
These shortcomings highlight deeper issues:-
- The lack of a political will could be seen as the government can be seen as being ignorant of the needs of the health infrastructure.
- It also shows a lack of awareness on the part of the public as many of them continue to rely on costly private sector hospitals.
- Lack of dedicated funds and an action-oriented plan to deal with the infrastructural shortcomings.
- Lack of a state health policy with a proper vision for the state’s citizens’ overall welfare.
Solutions:-
- A state action plan on health could be made with the help of NITI AAYOG.
- Corporate social responsibility Funds could be made available for bridging the financial gap.
- The quality of equipment and health staff should be of the best quality.
- Availablity of fine quality medicines at cheap prices should also be made available.
