News:-Chandra Mohan, India’ s tractor man, passes away.
- He was a Techno – entrepreneur and designer – Technologist.
- He had designed the Swaraj tractor ( India’s first indigenous tractor).
- He had founded the Punjab tractors Limited in 1970. He also remained its head for 27 years.
- Later, he went on to found Swaraj Mazda group, Swaraj engines, Swaraj automobiles etc.
- He has worked in the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute ( CSIR Lab).
- He had received the Padma Shri award in 1985.
- He was also the founder chairman of Punjab Technical University’s first School of excellence.
- He was also the founder president of TiE ( a global entrepreneurship organisation ), Chandigarh.
He has written two books:-
1 ” From Zero to Blue chip”. , which is a great book on management lessons and the victory of human will.
2.” Making Entrepreneurs” – an inspirational story of a techno entrepreneur.
Chandra Mohan – ” It is never too late to realise your dreams “.
This was the message of the great Chandra Mohan to the youth.

News:- Only 120 camels left in Punjab, the government plans to conserve the animal.
- Recently, 20th Livestock Census was conducted.
- As per the census, only 120 camels are left in the state.
- Camels have suffered a massive 99% decline in their numbers in the past 15 years.
- The Department of animal husbandry has sought the help of the Centre to start any conservation measure associated with camels.
What are the initiatives that are being sought?
- Some tourism project could be started to save the animal.
- Camel rearers should be given financial aid to preserve the remaining population.
- The database of the remaining 120 camels could be made si that their movement, problems etc could be tracked.
- ICAR – National Research Center on Camel, Bikaner has also suggested that the profitable schemes linked to camels should be involved.
- National park for camels could be thought of in Malwa region of Punjab.
- The expertise and help of IUCN and the World Wildlife Fund could be sought.
- Lacones of CCNB centre in Hyderabad, South India can undertake some research on the genetic material of the camels for obtaining better information about the genetic material of the camels.
- Till 2003, the camel population was around 30000 but after that, the numbers declined rapidly.
- Between 2003 and 2007, the numbers declined from 30000 to 2000.
- The mechanisation of Agriculture has also done damage to the cause of camels in the state.
