News:-” Hub and spoke ” model of Punjab for the treatment of cancer is set to be implemented across the country.
- This model is under the aegis or guidance of the Department of Atomic Energy( DAE).
- Under this, many subsidiary centres of cancer treatment have been set up at various nodes or places.
- These nodal Centres are also equipped with state-of-the-art technology and facilities.
- A hub has been established at Mullanpur village near Chandigarh.
- Whereas a spoke has been set up at Sangrur. ( In collaboration with Tata memorial centre, Mumbai.
Apart from Sangrur, six more centres or spokes are being operated by the state government. These six spokes are:-
- Faridkot
- Bathinda
- Patiala
- Fazilka
- Amritsar and
- Hoshiarpur.
Other important information:-
- These centres provide subsidised treatment with financial help coming from the Punjab government.
- The TMC wishes to establish 30 hubs with 100-139 spokes in the country to deal with the menace of the cancer disease.
- The incidence of cancer is estimated to be around 16 lakh annually, with a mortality rate of 8 lakh.
- Punjab’ s Malwa area is especially affected by the curse of cancer, owing to the prevalence of Uranium and other heavy metals in the groundwater and soil.
- The Union Standing Committee on Science And Technology has said that around 2/3rd treatment of cancer takes place in the private sector.
- Due to this, Out of Pocket expenditure of the patient’s increase.
- Also, more financial resources are needed to be put into this sector.

- Honourable Justice Mehtab Singh Gill Commission on an inquiry into false cases gets 260 false FIRs cancelled.
- The interim report has been published, which tells about the action taken on the previous reports submitted by the Commission.
- This Commission was set up in the year 2017 by the present government to look into the large scale misuse of police power against some political groups.

News:-National Green Tribunal visits the dysfunctional sewage treatment plant in Jalandhar.
- NGT has found a treatment plant at Basti Peerdaad in disarray.
- The point of concern is that around 75 million litres of toxic waste is being put into the Kala Sanghian drain and other water bodies in the city in the absence of a functional sewage treatment plant.
- Another drain known as Garha drain is also being fed with the toxic waste.
- An NGT monitoring committee, headed by Justice Jasbir Singh ( retired) has been keeping an eye on such drains.
- Especially in the wake of the celebration of the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Sultanpur Lodhi, the condition of drains is being monitored.
- The Environmentalist, Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal has also been raising the concerns regarding this issue.

News:- Punjab rolls out Dual System of Training( DST) in 35 ITI to improve the training curriculum and employability of the trainees.
- In this scheme, 53 trades have been started to enable industry linkages.
- It would also provide on the job ( hands-on) training to the youth.
- Latest machinery and technological aspects have been included in this scheme.
- DST is actually a combination of theoretical training through ITIs and practical training through the Industry.
- The training time ranges from 9 to 12 months.
- The Education and Industrial training department would review its performance after every 3 months.
- The government is also planning to introduce at least 1 DST course in each of the 117 government ITIs in the state next year.
The advantages of this scheme:-
- The trainees’ learning outcomes would improve and their employability status would receive a boost.
- The trainees would get training in the latest technological aspects like Artificial intelligence, Big Data etc.
- Besides, the Punjab government has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)s with many eminent industries to provide the training in the ITIs.
Many companies entered into pacts with the ITIs such as:-
- Ludhiana ITI has entered into a pact with Hero Cycles Limited.
- ITI Hoshiarpur has joined hands with International Tractors Limited ( Sonalika)
