Topic: Asia’s largest Compressed Biogas in Punjab

What is the news?

• Punjab’s New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora shared that Asia’s largest Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant, which commissioned in April this year has started commercial production in State’s Sangrur district.
• Plant with a total capacity of 33.23 tonne CBG per day had commissioned at village Bhuttal Kalan (Sangrur) in April, 2022, and had started commercial production of the CBG, which was being supplied to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) outlet.
• In addition to this, Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has also allocated 42 additional CBG projects of a total capacity 492.58 tons per day (TPD) based on paddy straw and other agro-residue to develop a lasting and sustainable solution to prevent stubble-burning problem while also strengthening the rural economy

 

How this project will contribute?

• These projects were expected to fetch private investment of around ₹1,200 crore, besides generating employment opportunities for 8,000 skilled and unskilled persons.
• With these projects, emission of Green House gases will also be reduced and the rural economy will get a boost by providing additional income to farmers from the agro residue.
• There is huge potential for CBG projects based on agro-waste in the State of Punjab.
• Along with this Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) is setting up a project of capacity 100 KL 2G ethanol per day based on paddy straw and other agro-residue in Bathinda district, which would be completed by February 2023. This project will consume about 2 lac tonne paddy straw annually.

Topic: Punjab’s first Liquid Oxygen, Nitrogen manufacturing plant

What is the news?

• A Big Boost for Industries and Medical establishment in Punjab as the states first Liquid Oxygen, Nitrogen manufacturing plant is now operational with a capacity of 178 Ton Per Day at District Fatehgarh Sahib.

 

 

What this plant will produce?

• The plant shall produce critical gases such as Liquid Oxygen, Argon & Nitrogen for industry and hospitals alike.

 

To whom this will support?

• This will be a big support to steel and pharma industry at large in the State.

• Due to strong support from Invest Punjab and business friendly ecosystem in the State, the plant was setup in a record time of 13 months from the ground breaking. The plant will fulfill the aspirational and growth need of the industries and citizen for a sustainable and holistic growth.

Topic: Punjab Aviation Museum

What is the news?

• The Punjab government has decided to set up ‘Punjab Aviation Museum’ at the civil Aerodrome in Patiala.

 

Purpose:

• The museum will showcase the journey of Punjab in the field of civil aviation.

 

How it will help?

• The upcoming museum will help understand the history of the aviation sector in the state. Towards this end, it can exhibit artifacts; replicas of aircrafts, photographs, maps, models, diagrams, clothing and equipment used by aviators can also be displayed at the museum.
• The CM said the museum should also periodicals, technical manuals, photographs and personal archives, which are often made available to aviation researchers for use in writing articles or books or to aircraft restoration specialists working on restoring an aircraft.
