What is the news?

• Punjab Government is committed to making ‘RANGLA PUNJAB’: CM

What does Rangla Punjab mean by CM?

• Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today called upon people to join hands and wage a war against social maladies like unemployment, corruption, communalism and social discrimination to realize the dreams of our freedom fighters and make a ‘Rangla Punjab ‘.
• Chief Minister said that these maladies are hampering the progress of the state and prosperity of its people.

 

The chief minister asked the people:

1)  To remain vigilant of the nefarious designs of some fissiparous forces to destabilize the state. He said that these forces want to derail the peace and progress of state. Bhagwant Mann said that though the land of Punjab is very fertile and anything can be grown on it, but the seeds of hatred and communalism can never germinate here.

2) Invoking the bani of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the Chief Minister urged the people to refrain from the inhuman practice of female foeticide. He said that girls must be given a chance to excel in life. Bhagwant Mann said that girls are today proving their mettle in every field and becoming an equal partner in socio-economic growth of the country.

3) The Chief Minister further said that great Gurus have shown the way to Punjabis to fight against tyranny, injustice and oppression. He said that bani and life of great Guru sahibans have ever inspired the Punjabis to make supreme sacrifices at the altar of the motherland. Bhagwant Mann said that we must follow the footsteps of great Gurus, saints and seers serve the state zealously.

Initiatives in Health Care Sector:

• The chief Minister asserted that in order to provide quality and timely health services to the people, the state government is dedicating 75 Aam Aadmi clinics to mark 75th Independence Day today. He said that these clinics will offer 41 health packages with nearly 100 clinical tests free of cost to the people. Bhagwant Mann envisaged that these clinics as the cornerstone to revamp of the health care system in Punjab.

 

Initiatives in Education Sector:

• The chief Minister further said that the state government is committed to rejuvenate Education system in state to reverse the trend of brain drain. He said that towards this end, the state government has adopted a Multi-pronged approach that is aimed at transforming government schools into ‘Schools of Eminence’. Likewise, Bhagwant Mann said 16 new medical colleges will come into the state during coming five years.

 

Initiatives in Providing Facility:

• Chief Minister also said that in a path breaking initiative his government provided 600 units of free power per billing cycle to every section of society. He said that as a result of this, 51 lakh households out of the total 74 lakh will get zero electricity bill in the month of September. Likewise, Bhagwant Mann said that 68 lakh households will get zero power bill in January, which will be roughly 90% of the total households of the state.

 

Initiatives to protect environment:

• The chief Minister reiterated that the state government will not allow the textile park to come up at Mattewara, which are the lungs of Ludhiana. He said that the Punjab government has already offered alternative land sites for the project to the Government of India. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is committed to saving the environment of the state.

What is the news?

• Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday said that soon the entire official working of the Vidhan Sabha will be paperless and the work of installing computers on the tables of all MLAs is in full swing.

• After the meeting of the Committee on Computerization and Digitization in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha here today, all the members also reviewed the work of installing computers in the Vidhan Sabha Hall.
• Sandhwan urged the concerned departments to intensify efforts to implement the National e-Vidhan Application so that the entire proceedings of the Vidhan Sabha could be paper-free at the earliest.

Topic: Shaheed Bhagat Singh Education Fund

What is the news?

• Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Minister of Higher Education Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer along with, Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney has launched Shaheed Bhagat Singh Education Fund.

 

Purpose:

• For funding the economically weak bright students for higher studies.

Contribution:

• The Fund of Rs 50 lakhs per annum have been contributed by Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who is also President of World Punjabi Organization and Sun Foundation.

 

How funds will be used?

• The fund will be allocated to various bright economically weak students who want to pursue higher studies but could not do it due to lack of funds. A Committee has been formed under the Chairmanship of Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Vice Chairman Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer to scrutinize and decide the scholarship to the needy students.
• Sahney also announced that free skills will be provided to the youth of Punjab in various job oriented courses all over the Punjab free of cost. Five such world skill centers are being set up by his NGO Sun Foundation in partnership with Punjab government. The World Skill Centre is already running in Amritsar where one thousand youth is being provided jobs.

Topic: Decisive war against drugs in Punjab.

What is the news?

• DECISIVE WAR AGAINST DRUGS: Punjab Police nabs those absconders who were evading arrest since 198s0 and 1990s.
• With the special drive launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to arrest Proclaimed offenders (POs)/absconders in NDPS Act cases has entered the 7th week, the weekly arrests of POs/absconders have witnessed a significant surge as Punjab Police has managed to arrest as many as 45 such POs/absconders in last one week.

Initiatives taken by Police:

• Punjab Police besides tightening the noose around the drug smugglers/suppliers has also been doing all the possible efforts to keep youth away from drugs and helping to rehabilitate those who have already fallen prey to this menace.
• All the CPs/SSPs have been conducting different activities including public meetings, visiting drug-affected villages, conducting seminars, holding joint meetings with MLAs, Sarpanches, and Councillors besides involving NGOs and Youth Clubs to work against drugs in their respective districts to sensitize the youth about the harmful and ill-effects of drugs.
• Meanwhile, the DGP has strictly ordered all the CPs/SSPs to further tighten the noose around the drug smugglers by identifying all top drug smugglers and the hotspots infamous for drug smuggling in their jurisdictions and launching a combing operation to nab all those selling/smuggling drugs.
• Police chiefs to effectively forfeit the property of all the arrested drug smugglers so that their ill-gotten money could be recovered.

What is the news?

• Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tribute to Shaheed Karnail Singh Isru at his native village and also honored Mr. Charanjit Kaur, widow of Shaheed Karnel Singh Isru. The Chief Minister said he was heroes in the struggle to free Goa from Portuguese imperialism.
• Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid homage to Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru at his native village and also felicitated Mrs. Charanjit Kaur, the widow of Shaheed Karnail Singh Issru.
• Chief Minister said that the martyr was the hero of the liberation of Goa from Portuguese imperialism.

 

About Shaheed Karnel Singh Isru:

• A 25-year old man, just married; driven by the fervor and patriotism for our country, takes off to join the Satyagraha march from Pune to Goa – a peaceful protest to demand the liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule.
• The Portuguese Army opens fire on the protestors and the young man in an act of valour takes on the bullets to his chest to save his friends. His dying fighting for a Goa – an integral part of India – that is free from Portuguese imposition and evils. This act of bravery happened in 1955 on August 15th – India’s Independence.
• Today Goa as a state is progressing economically and socially as part of India because of brave-hearts like Shaheed Karnail Singh who put India and Goa before self and family; even proved it by laying down his life, but our children are not being taught about the sacrifice of this brave patriot in our books in schools.
