In the trailer part of the tableau, the state will have screens to showcase the scene of the British police lathicharge on peaceful protests led-by Lala Lajpat Rai in Lahore on October 30, 1928, against the members of the Simon Commission, in which Rai had received grievous injuries ultimately leading to his death.
On another screen, the state tableau will showcase the trial court scene of Shaheed Udham Singh, who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre of April 13, 1919, by firing bullets at former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab Michael O’Dwyer in London’s Caxton Hall on March 13, 1940, killing him. The back part of the state tableau’s trailer will also have ‘Shaheed-e-Minar’ as has been erected in Jang-e-Azadi memorial-cum-museum.
Punjab’s tableau has been selected consecutively for the sixth year for the Republic Day parade. It was in 2017 that Punjab’s tableau themed on folk dance ‘Jago’ was selected for the R-Day parade in 2017. In 2018, the state’s tableau based on the theme ‘Sangat and Pangat’ (congregation and community kitchen known as Guru ka Langar) participated.
State’s tableau that showcased Jallianwala Bagh’s history won the third prize in 2019. Whereas in 2020, the MHA had selected Punjab’s tableau themed on first Sikh master Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings of Kirat Karo (Work Hard and Honestly), Naam Japo (Always Remember God), Vand Chhako (Share with Needy). Punjab’s last year’s Republic Day parade tableau was themed on the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
