What is the news?

 

  • Jallianwala facelift project stalled, fresh deadline June 15

 

Important:-

  • The work of restoration and allied services worth Rs19.36 crore is being carried out by the Union Ministry of Culture under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India.
  • It is being executed by National Buildings Construction Corporation (India) Ltd.
  • A new exit point with a 15-feet-wide gate has been made. The old structure around the martyrs’ well has been replaced with a new structure having glass walls on its surroundings for giving a clear view of inside the well.
  • Besides, a 50-seat auditorium on the first floor is being revamped with a 3-D projection system to showcase a documentary film.

  • It is a public garden in Amritsar famous for one of the most tragic yet landmark events in the history of India. This is where the Amritsar Massacre of 1919 took place.

What is the news?

 

  • Punjab Government may enact the clinical establishment Act
  • Hanging fire for the last eight years due to ‘lobbying’ by private practitioners.

 

Context:-

  • The COVID-19 outbreak may end Punjab’s wait to get the Clinical Establishment Act as the government is planning to bring an ordinance to end “fleecing” by private doctors. The Act, whose draft is ready, has been hanging fire for the past eight years.
  • The Punjab Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation& Transparency) Act, 2019” in the Cabinet meeting slated to be held on Friday. The Chief Minister has already announced to take action against private practitioners for shutting down OPDs. The CM, in a TV interview, has confirmed that the government will bring the ordinance on Saturday.

 

Aim:-

  • To regulate the functioning of private hospitals in the country, the Union Government had enacted the Clinical Establishment Act 2010, which was adopted by several states.
  •  However, instead of adopting the same Act, the then Punjab Government had decided to draft its own and in 2012, constituted a Clinical Establishment Act Drafting Committee.
