What is the news?

 

  •  An app, COVA Punjab has been launched by the government of Punjab.

 

Who developed this app?

  • The app has been developed by the Department of Government Reforms and Public Grievances in Consultation with the health and family welfare department.

 

What is the purpose?

  • The app has been developed to spread awareness by sharing various travel and preventive care advisories.

 

The app would also inform regarding:-

  • The symptoms of the coronavirus flu as provided by the government from time to time.
  • The nearest hospital and nodal officer of the district where the patient can reach could also be told through this app.

 What is the news?

 
  • Punjab tops the chart in highest per capita milk availability in the country.

 

Important:-

  • The state of Punjab has the highest per capita milk availability in the country, at 1181 gram per day against the national average of 394 gm.
  • The average milk yield per cattle head was 3.51 kg in 2012 whereas it has increased to 5.27 kg in 2019.
  • Punjab Produces 345 lakh kg of milk per day.
  • Around 19 lakh tonnes increase in milk yield has been observed in the state, between 2016 and 2019.
  • The number of buffaloes fell from 51 lakh to about 40 lakh between 2012 and 2019.
  • Whereas the cows have increased to 25.18 lakh from 24.27 lakh.
  • The presence of high tech commercial dairy farming in the past decade has been said to be the main rationale for this increase.
  •  Punjab progressive Dairy Farmers Association has played a pioneering role in it.
  • The sperm used for reproduction in the dairy industry is of good quality.
  • Preserved green fodder ( silage ) is given to animals for 3 - 4 months after the weather turns dry.
 

Which department conducted the livestock census?

  • The livestock Census 2019 was conducted by the Department of Animal Husbandry.
