Topic: Prison Reforms.

 

 News:-Punjab government to form the Punjab Prisons Development Board on the lines of Telangana.
  • The main aim of the initiative is to engage the prisoners in gainful economic activity with the intention of having a  reformative impact on them.
  • The Board would also help in curbing crime in the prisons.
  • The revenue could also be generated, keeping the prisoners busy.

 

Composition of the Board:-

  • The Chief Minister as the Chairman.
  • Jails Minister as the senior vice-chairman.
  • Additional Chief Secretary or principal secretary or secretary to the department of jails as the vice-chairperson. And so on.
  • This step is quite commendable and can bring greater improvement in the condition of jails

Topic: Punjabi religious heritage.

 

News:-Manjeev Singh Puri, former ambassador to Nepal, releases a book on Sikh heritage in Nepal.

  • The book – Sikh Heritage in Nepal has been released by Manjeev,  to shed light on Sikh relationship with Nepal.
  • The Ex-PM, Manmohan Singh, was also present at the event, where the book was being released.
  • Guru Nanak Ji had some connection with the region, as during his travels or Udasis.
  • More research in this domain is perhaps needed. Sikh relationship with Nepal is a subject, which is yet to be deciphered in a proper manner.

News:- Sister Mirabelle,  who served a school in Ludhiana for more than 5 decades passes away.
  • Sister Mirabelle hailed from Mangalore, Karnataka.
  • She was serving in the Sacred Heart Senior Secondary school, Sarabha Nagar, in Ludhiana.
  • She ran a bookshop and canteen in the school.
  • She taught the students the values such as Piety, humility and simplicity.
  • She was Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by the Punjab government in 2016.
  • Due to her selfless service, she was also known as the Soul of the School.
