 News:-

• UAE companies are looking to boost the logistics sector of Punjab
•  DP World is a prominent logistics sector company of UAE.
• It is exploring an opportunity to start a multi-modal logistics park in Pathankot.
• The advantage of a railway line nearby would also boost the connectivity of the proposed park with other states such as Himachal Pradesh.

 

DP World can set up various facilities such as:-

• Freight terminal
• Inland container depot
• Warehouses and
• Special storage solutions

 

Such parks would have several advantages:-

•  It would reduce the logistics of operational costs in the state.
• It would boost exports from the state
• It can give fill up to the food- processing industry in the state.
• Employment and non – farm growth can be boosted.

 

Besides, other groups such as EMAAR and LULU GROUP are also exploring the opportunities to establish food processing units.

 

Other potential development projects are:-

• Another UAE based company is planning to connect three TAKHTS ( thrones of Sikhism) through chopper service.
• Virgin Hyperloop One was also approached by the state to develop high – speed lines for Transport and conveyance.
• ( Chandigarh to Delhi) and ( Chandigarh to Amritsar).
• The state can bring out a new logistics sector policy to promote the sector.

• Punjab police come up with a 3-D X-ray scanner at Madhopur to track any suspicious activity.
• The machine would facilitate scanning of containers and other goods.

 

The need for this machine:-

• Pathankot- Jammu highway is a strategic pathway.
• The threat of terrorism looms large on the highway.
• Terrorists can speak into Punjab through Pathankot.
• Dinanagar attacks had happened due to the loopholes in the security system.
