What is the name of the Programme?

  • ‘Har Ghar Pathshala’

 

How did it help?

  • Made Online Classrooms Accessible as Schools closed.

 

Who gets covered under this?

  • The Chief Minister also reviewed the ‘Learning from Home- Har Ghar Pathshala’, a home-based teaching programme for the students from grades 9 to 12 during the lockdown period of COVID-19.

 

Why important?

  • Himachal not only became one of the first states in India to launch a formal online education program for all grades in government schools, but it also beat many private schools.
  • Within a week of the lockdown being announced, the Government of Himachal Pradesh started planning for online learning assuming long-term closure of schools. Within a week, the state launched a program called “Har Ghar Pathshala”, with a vision to convert every home into a school.
  •  For the first time in the country, a state government leveraged online channels to educate students at such a scale.
  • At the end of one week, 95% of nearly 15,000 schools were connected with the Department of Education and close to 70% of 8 lakh students were connected with their teachers.

What is the news?

  • Farm Startup’s plan to increases fruit economy 4 times.

Startup Demands:-

  • The startup (The Plum Growers Forum) claims that the farmers can take the fruit economy beyond Rs 20,000 crore with the help of some policy changes.

 

Cause of Stagnation at present shared by Growers:-

  • Stagnation on overdependence on apple.
  • Lack of efforts towards making other fruits commercially attractive, diminishing yield.
  • Productivity, among other factors.

 

Growers demands:-

  • The government must revisit the rules for importing planting materials from abroad. That’s the key to enhancing both the quality and quantity. Right now, the process is quite cumbersome.
  • To treat farmers equivalent to businessmen and offer them facilities accordingly. “Offer them term loans to modernise their farms. One-year loans that farmers get through Kisan Credit won’t do as the gestation period of fruits is long.
  • The control of the supply chain should be gradually transferred to farmers. “As and when that happens, the farmers will no longer be desperate sellers. They will be able to manage the supply following the demand and reach the end consumer directly across the country.

  • ITBP team scales Leo Pargil peak in Himachal.

 

Who led the expedition?

  • Deputy Commandant Kuldeep Singh led the expedition to the 22,222 feet snow-covered peak in Lahaul Spiti.

 

Why important?

  • This is the first such expedition in the times of Covid-19 pandemic.

 

About Leo Pargial Peak:-

  • Reo Purgyil, sometimes known as Leo Pargial and Leo Pargil, is a mountain peak at the southern end of the Zanskar Range in the Western Himalaya area of the Himalayas.
  • It is located on the Himachal Pradesh/Tibetan border in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, India.
