What is the news?

  • Prof HK Chaudhary, Vice Chancellor of the HP Agriculture University, has been conferred with the honorary rank of Colonel Commandant of the NCC in a piping ceremony held on the campus here today.
  • Brig Rohit Datta decorated Prof Chaudhary with the Col Commandant rank. Brigadier Datta congratulated the VC on behalf of the NCC Director General and the nation. He said only 13 VCs had been conferred this Honorary Col rank this year. “The VC is nurturing his institution excellently and contributing much to the society by inspiring all to become better citizens,” Brigadier Datta added.
  • He also talked about the importance of the outfit and asked the cadets to learn to be honest, sincere, etc.
  • Prof. Chaudhary, who was dressed in an Army outfit, said that it was a day of glory for both the university and himself. He thought about his late mother and told the Army officials how grateful he was for the honor.
  • He promised to make NCC events at the university stronger and thanked the authorities for increasing the number of university cadets from 100 to 200. He talked about what the NCC cadets had done well. He said that the university NCC cadets were regularly becoming leaders in the Indian armed forces. He asked parents to get their kids excited about helping the country.

  • Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya (CSK HPKV), also known as HP Agriculture University, is a public agricultural university located in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, India. It was established on 1 November 1978 by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in agriculture, horticulture, veterinary science, and other related fields. It also has a number of research and extension centers located throughout the state.
  • The university is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It is ranked 11th among the 75 ICAR universities in India.
  • The university has a strong alumni network of over 25,000 graduates who are working in various sectors of agriculture, horticulture, and allied industries. The university has also been recognized for its contribution to the development of agriculture in Himachal Pradesh.
  • Over the years, this University has contributed significantly in transforming the farm scenario of Himachal Pradesh. It has developed human resources, varieties and technologies and transferred these to farming community enabling the State to receive the “Krishikarman award” of Govt. of India four times in row for food grain production among small states of the country. Today, the State has earned its name for hill agricultural diversification and the farming community has imposed its faith in the University.

What is the news?

  • During the last rainy spell, snow fell in the Chanshal area near Rohru in the Shimla district, which surprised the locals. Many people say it’s likely the first time it’s snowed there this late in the summer.
  • The weather service said it was strange and unusual for Chanshal to have snow at this time of year. The department says that 45 cm of snow has fallen at Chanshal Pass. “Temperatures have dropped a lot in the last few days because it has been raining hard and nonstop. “The snowfall is because the temperatures are so low,” said Surender Paul, Director of the Shimla Meteorological Centre.
  • Both the high and low temperatures over the last few days have been way below usual. Today, the average highest temperatures were over 9 degrees Celsius lower than usual. Over the next week, both the high and low temperatures are likely to stay below average.

Concerning Chanshal Pass:

  • The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has a high mountain pass called Chanshal Pass. It is 4,520 meters above sea level and links the Dodra Kwar Valley to the Rohru Valley. From May to November, the pass is open, and many people go there to hike, walk, and camp.
  • From the Chanshal Pass, you can see the Chanshal Peak, which is the highest peak in the Shimla area, and other beautiful mountains. There are also a few small villages on the pass where visitors can learn about native Himachali culture.
  • The pass is on top of Chanshal hill, which is the highest hill in the Shimla district at 4,520 meters (14,830 ft).
