- Meteorologists use Doppler radar to measure objects like raindrops’ direction, speed, or velocity. This is called the Doppler Effect, and it helps weather forecasters figure out if the movement in the air is horizontally toward or away from the radar.

What is the news?
- Minister of Public Works Vikramaditya Singh said today that the Bhakra Beas Management Board would be consulted about making the Pong Dam in Kangra district a center for water sports (BBMB).
The Minister of the Public Works Department said:
- Vikramaditya told reporters here that the issue of developing the Pong Dam for tourism and sports would be looked at after Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had a chance to weigh in.
- “The Chief Minister wants to make Kangra a better place for tourists. We want to promote water sports, so we will talk to the BBMB about it,” he said.
- He said that the Pong Dam would be used for water sports with help from the Tourism Department. “The BBMB has a lot of land, and after talking to its leaders, we will try to get the extra land back so that the Pong Dam can become a center for water sports,” he said.
- He said the Pong Dam would have golf courses, cruises, and shikara rides to make it a major tourist spot.
About Pong Dam:
- The Maharana Pratap Sagar reservoir was built on the river Beas in the Shivalik hills’ wetland in the Himachal Pradesh Kangra district.
- It is also called Pong Dam or Pong reservoir.
- This dam was built in 1975 and was named after Maharana Pratap. This reservoir or lake is a famous wildlife sanctuary and one of the 25 international wetland sites declared by Ramsar Sammel in India.
- The reservoir covers 24,529 hectares (60,610 acres), and 15,662 hectares are part of the lakes (38,700 acres).
- Himachal Pradesh’s Pong reservoir is the most crucial place for fish in the foothills of the Himalayas. There are a lot of beautiful fish in this lake.
