What is the news?
- The National Highway Construction Company is blamed for illegally dumping trash and muck, which is hurting water supplies and putting at risk farmland near Bari Mandir village, which is close by.
Challenges we all face:
- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has found about 10 kanals where waste from the hill cutting site can be dumped. Sources say that the land was found near the Kohlu Sidh Temple, and the company was told to build a crate wall around it before dumping trash there, but it didn’t do what it was told. Because of this, debris fell onto the land that villagers could use to grow food.
- People are upset that the company isn’t listening to their request to build a crate wall. Amarnath, a local, says that the trash will hurt their land, and when it rains, mud will get into their homes. He also says that sources of drinking water are also being damaged.
Steps taken:
- NHAI Site Engineer Sushil Kumar said that the construction company has been told to soon put up a crate wall at the site where trash is dumped. He gave people his word that no one’s property would be lost in the area.
