What is the news?
- Button and Dhingri mushrooms have contracted the Cobweb disease during the monsoon season. The disease is making the mushroom colour light brown and finally pink by rotting the stem, including manure.
- More than two lakh tonnes of mushrooms are produced every year across the country. So far, 25 per cent of this mushroom has been damaged in the rainy season. If the rainy season continues like this, the damage may increase further.
Dr Anil, a disease specialist at the Directorate of Khumb Solan, shared:
- The fungus disease damages mushrooms during the rainy season. This disease starts from the stem of mushrooms, which also causes rot in the bag of manure.
About Cobweb diseases:
- Cobweb is a fungal disease caused by a number of closely related species of Cladobotryum.
- In North America, no highly pesticide resistant varieties have been identified to date, although resistance seems to be increasing.
- Cobweb is characterized by the growth of coarse mycelium covering affected mushrooms.

- Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar inaugurated the two-day state-level Janmashtami festival at the historic Brij Raj Swami Temple.
- The Governor also released the first issue of the ‘Brij Raj Swami Temple’ souvenir (like a memento).
About Brij Raj Swami Temple Nurpur:
- The historical Brij Raj Swami Temple in the historical Nurpur Fort is the only temple where the idol of Meera is worshipped alongside Lord Krishna’s.
- People from the lower Kangra valley have immense faith in the deity. It is located in the foothills and is hardly a kilometre from the Pathankot-Mandi national highway.
- Meera worshipped Lord Krishna and when the king of Nurpur (1619-1623) went to Chittorgarh in Rajasthan, he got the idol of Lord Krishna, which is now installed at the temple, as a return gift from the king of Chittorgarh.
- Along with this, he also brought a moulsari (fruit-bearing plant) tree. It dried up on the way back, but was put to life through ‘puja’ and chanting of mantras, it is said. This plant has now grown into a huge tree. The antique idol of Lord Krishna is still preserved in the temple and is worshipped by pilgrims.
- The lifelike idol of Lord Krishna playing flute is a matchless beauty.

What is the news?
1) For the first time, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus service is going to start on the Manali-Shinkula-Padum-Kargil strategic route, which is 16,703 feet above sea level. Keylong depot has successfully conducted a 24-seater bus on the under-construction Darcha-Padum-Kargil road via the Shinkula Pass to Padum.
About Shinkula Pass :
- Shingo-La (also known as Shinku La) is a mountain pass in India, on the border between Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh.
- There is a shallow lake or pool 20m below the pass.
- The pass is on a long-distance footpath linking Zanskar and Lahaul, used often by locals and trekkers alike.
- The 297-km long Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road that was identified as the third route to Ladakh in 2021.
- Centre has already made ‘Project Yojak’ of BRO to execute this ambitious project.
Also about New Road:
- Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will start the construction of the tunnel connecting Himachal Pradesh to Zanskar Valley in Ladakh by July this year.
- He said the Centre has already made ‘Project Yojak’ of BRO to execute this ambitious project.
- This tunnel, to be completed by 2025, will change the economy of Zanskar Valley, the official added.
- At present, one has to travel 101 kms from Manali to Darcha on Leh road and thereafter, take a turn from Darcha towards Shinku La Pass and enter Zanskar valley.
- The south portal of the tunnel will be at Shinku La and the north portal at Lakhang, he added.
- The D-G lauded the efforts of BRO personnel in resorting the Shinku La-Padum road as well as Manali-Leh road in record time.
