Topic: Kayakalp  Award

What is the news?

  • The regional hospital in Kullu has been presented with the first prize in the state under the Kayakalp Award Scheme for 2021-22.

It is given for:

  • The Kayakalp Award is given for performing as per the national quality assurance standards (NQAS) in hospitals under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
  • The hospital Medical Superintendent (MS), Dr Naresh Chand, said a cash award of Rs 25 lakh was recently presented to them at a function held in Shimla.
  • The hospital had won the award earlier in the year 2017-18.

 

The Medical Superintendent said:

  • The achievement could be made due to the efforts of the hospital staff.

 

An award based on what evaluation:

  • A committee had evaluated the hospital in various categories such as cleanliness, maintenance, security arrangements, disposal of biomedical waste and other facilities.

 

Congratulating the staff of the hospital, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Sushil Chander said:
  • By winning this award the hospital also qualified for NQAS at the national-level and has been awarded a citation by the Union Ministry of Health.

 

About Kayakalp Award:

  • The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri J P Nadda have launched ‘Kayakalp Award Scheme’ on May 15, 2015 as an extension of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.

Topic: ‘Ayush Pathshala Vatika’ campaign

What is the news?

  • Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar today launched ‘Ayush Pathshala Vatika’ campaign under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from Government Senior Secondary School at Baldeyan near Shimla.

About Campaign:

  • Under this campaign, 200 schools in the state have been selected where along with the development of Medicinal Gardens, medicinal plants will also be distributed to the students.

Who will work on this campaign?

  • Education, Ayush and Forest Department will work together in this campaign.
  • On the occasion, the Governor planted Rakhal (Taxus baccata) and Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) saplings in the Ayush Pathshala Vatika in the school campus.

What Governor shared?

  • Speaking on the occasion, the Governor asked the students to ensure their vitality after plantation.
  • He said that a target has been set to plant one lakh saplings this year so that their viability could be ensured. He said that the purpose of planting medicinal plants is to make students aware about their usefulness.
  • He said that about 600 medicinal plants were found in the State, which should be documented properly. He said that efforts should be made so that these plants do not become extinct.

Topic: Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojna (MMSY)

What is the news?

  • The Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojna (MMSY) launched by the state government is playing a significant role in fulfilling dreams of many aspiring women entrepreneurs.

 

How much benefit it gave till now?

  • Till now, 1,969 units have been set up by women in the state.
  • As many as 273 women of Kangra, 236 of Solan, 215 of Una, 209 of Mandi, 200 women of Sirmaur, 194 of Hamirpur, 184 of Shimla, 171 of Bilaspur, 152 of Kullu, 61 of Chamba, 48 of Kinnaur and 26 women of Lahaul and Spiti have benefited under the scheme, a spokesperson for the state government said.
  • Suruchi Bhanu, a resident of Bhuntar in Kullu district, got a loan of about Rs 40 lakh for opening a gymnasium in 2021 and now, her monthly income has increased up to Rs 1.5 lakh.
  • Sanjana Sharma, a resident of Ratti near Nerchowk of Mandi district, got a loan of Rs 11.50 lakh for her own restaurant and at present, she is earning an income of about Rs 80,000 per month.

 

How much subsidy is being given under this scheme?

  • Under the MMSY scheme, a subsidy of 30-35 per cent is provided to women for setting up projects up to Rs 1 crore and interest subvention is provided at the rate of 5 per cent for three years.

What is the news?

  • 33 percent of the prisoners serving sentences in the jails of the state have been caught in drug trafficking.
  • Besides, 44 per cent of undertrials are drug traffickers.
  • If this pace continues, the jails of Himachal Pradesh will one day be filled with drug smugglers. Other crimes will fall short in the face of drug trafficking.

 

What does this convey?

This reveals two aspects.:
  • The first is that the accused are getting caught more, secondly, the graph of drug trafficking is increasing in the state.
  • Drug smugglers are reaching every village of the state.

 

Data:

  • In the court, the police will prominently represent the case of drug smugglers. Of the 295 drug peddlers serving sentences in the state’s jails, 285 are men and 10 women. In the year 2022 till July, the number of drug traffickers among under trials is 931, including 885 men and 46 women.
  • The police have cracked down on drug peddlers in the state through the Enforcement Directorate.
  • In the last three years, assets worth more than Rs 12.48 crore have been attached in 22 cases. On the other hand, DGP Sanjay Kundu says that Himachal Police is taking strict action against drug smugglers. He said 33 per cent of criminals and 44 per cent of undertrials in Himachal Pradesh jails are drug traffickers. (HDM)

  • The youth in the state is becoming more addicted to drugs. Police are also arresting the minor.
  • Such a situation arises in many places, where students of educational institutions are also falling prey to drugs.
  • This counselling of such children is being done through NGOs.

Initiative by Police:

  • To deal with this growing problem, the police have warned the smugglers to be careful. The police will not only arrest them, but also seize the black money earned from drug trafficking.

  • The natis in the veins of Himachal will now be in Sanskrit as well.
  • The young students of the school have taken the initiative to mould the natis into Sanskrit and now the language department is going to bring these natis among the people.
  • An attempt has been made to give uniformity by changing the complex words of Pahari in Sanskrit.
  • With the help of these songs, a glimpse of the entire Himachal will be told with Sanskrit words and not only Himachal but other parts of the country will also be able to connect with the cultural heritage of the state due to the changed language.
  • Now the natis will be staged for the first time on the stage of the language and culture department.
  • Not only natis but plays in Sanskrit have also been prepared. Through these, efforts will be made to connect school students with Sanskrit.
  • The department is preparing to celebrate the Sanskrit Day in a special way.

Songs to be performed on Sanskrit Day:

  • Pankaj Lalit, Director, Department of Language and Culture, said that the iconic natis of Himachal have been moulded into Sanskrit.
  • They will be organized on the occasion of Sanskrit Day. For the first time, these plays will be performed on the occasion of Sanskrit Day.
  • With Himachali nati getting Sanskrit words, their impact will increase further.

What is the news?

  • The average age of the people of Himachal Pradesh is increasing. Himachal Pradesh ranks fourth in the country in the list of states with a higher average age of people.

  • Delhi is in the first place, Kerala in the second place and Jammu and Kashmir in the third place.

  • This was stated by State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Bharati Pawar in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

 

According to the recently released report World Health Statistics 2022 by the World Health Organization:
  • The life expectancy rate has increased by two percent.
  • The average age of Indians has increased to 69.7 years. However, India’s life expectancy rate is much lower than the estimated global average of 72.6 years.
  • It took India nearly 10 years to add two years to the life expectancy rate at birth. In 1970-75, India’s life expectancy rate at birth was 49.7 years. During the next 45 years, it increased by about 20 years. India’s life expectancy rate has increased to 69.7 years in 2015-19 data.
  • While the life expectancy rate of men is 69.9 years, the life expectancy rate of women is 77.1 percent.
  • According to the report, the average age of women in Himachal is improving. The average age of a person in Himachal was 72.9 in 2016 by the Sample Registration System of the Government of India. At the same time, it has now increased to 73.1. (HDM)

 

Smoking- diabetes reduces men’s life:

  • According to the researchers, the factors that affect life expectancy of risk factors have been calculated by strengthening body mass and index, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Researchers have found that smoking and diabetes are the biggest reasons for the reduced life expectancy rate of 30-year-old men. Smoking reduces their life expectancy rate by 6.6 years and diabetes by 6.5 years. Apart from this, being under heavy stress reduces life expectancy rates by 2.8 percent.
