About Giri water Project:

GIRI PROJECT IN DISTRICT SIRMOUR

  • The Giri Irrigation Project was the first prestigious project of its kind taken in hand by Irrigation and Public Health Department of Himachal Pradesh.
  • This project was conceived during the year 1977-78 to cover 5263 ha. initially with a estimated cost of Rs.4.16 crore. The project was completed during 1981-82 at a cost of Rs.8.23 crore and an area of 5263 ha. was brought under irrigation.

What is the news?

  • “Chief Minister Women Empowerment Scheme” showed the path of self-reliance to lakhs of women.

 

When it was announced?

  • Presenting the annual budget estimate for the year 2022-23, Chief Minister announced to start Mukhyamantri Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojna with the objective of providing livelihood and self-employment related activities to lakhs of women belonging to self-help groups and to increase entrepreneurship.

 

Main Objective:

  • The main objective of this scheme is to empower the members of women self-help groups formed under the Rural Development Department economically and socially.
  • Under the scheme, additional parikrama (revolving fund) will be provided to self-help groups to start livelihood activities and increase entrepreneurship, so that they can be financially empowered.

 

Other provisions:

  • For the purpose of providing social security to lakhs of women belonging to self-help groups, they will be registered under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
  • The special thing is that the state government will bear the payment of annual premium of these insurance schemes.
  • HP By increasing the honorarium of trained community resource persons under the State Rural Livelihood Mission, they will be encouraged to implement the scheme effectively at the ground level.

 

25 thousand additional revolving fund per group to 10 thousand self-help groups:

  • In the financial year 2022-23, additional parikrama amount (revolving fund) of Rs 25,000 per group will be provided to about 10 thousand self-help groups associated with village organizations.
  • Apart from this, women of Self Help Groups formed under Rural Development Department are being included under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana for the financial year 2022-23.
  • Community resource persons trained and working under the State Rural Livelihood Mission; The honorarium of Krishi Sakhi, Pashu Sakhi, Agriculture Industry Sakhi, Finance Sakhi, Bank Sakhi etc. will be increased from Rs 350 per day to Rs 500 per day.
  • Under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, additional interest subvention will also be provided in Category-I districts (other 8 districts) like Shimla, Mandi, Kangra and Una respectively, so that in these districts also, self-help groups will get the rate of 4 percent.
  • To make loans available from banks. After giving interest subvention in category-2 districts by the Government of India, whatever additional interest subvention will be payable, will be borne by the State Government.

 

Accident insurance of Rs 2 lakh for women belonging to self-help groups:

  • According to the Mukhyamantri Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojana, a state-level Jeevan Hai Anmol campaign was launched in the state to include all eligible women belonging to self-help groups under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.
  • About 2.20 lakh women belonging to self-help groups have been registered under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and 1.85 lakh women under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana during this campaign, which started on Himachal Day on 15th April, 2022 and lasted for 25 days.
  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, women belonging to self-help groups will get the benefit of accident insurance of Rs 2 lakh and life insurance of Rs 2 lakh.
  • After registration under these schemes, the cost of premium payment will be borne by the state government.
  • Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Shri Virendra Kanwar ji says that the availability of easy and low interest loans under Mukhyamantri Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojana will help self-help groups to start self-employment activities and increase entrepreneurship, while rural women self-help.
  • This scheme will also prove to be effective in strengthening the economy of the villages by the development of clusters.
