What is the news?

• A letter-box-shaped post office in Hikkim in the Spiti Valley will be an important attraction for tourists to the tribal district.

Why important?

• Inaugurating the building, Vandita Kaul, Chief Post Master General, Himachal Circle, said:
• There was no such post office building across the country.

About Hikkim Post Office:

• The world’s highest post office has been in operation in an ancient building in Hikkim since 1983.
• Since the building is in a dilapidated condition, the department has constructed the new one.
• Hikkim’s post office had been one of the favourite tourist places in Spiti. The village is located 14,400 feet above sea level at Langcha panchayat at Lahaul and Spiti.
