What is the news?
- Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, State System of Higher Education (USA) University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for higher education academic partnerships here today.
Purpose:
- Governor of HP and Chancellor of HP University, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar while presiding over the signing ceremony, said that the relation between HPU and IUP assumes importance, particularly when Education is undergoing a transformational change through the mandate of National Education Policy (NEP).
- HPU has also signed MoU with Harrisburg University of Science & Technology, USA in the recent past and good progress has been made with respect to Forensic Science, Biotechnology and Management.
- The MoU between Himachal Pradesh University and IUP will help to reach out to diverse communities locally and globally, understanding the need for change and inclusive growth of all the stakeholders.

- In a virtual mode agreement signing ceremony Dr. Peter Garland, Executive Vice-Chancellor Emeritus, Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Mr. James Struzzi, State Senator, Pennsylvania, Dr. Donna Wilson, Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Chief Academic Officer, Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Dr. Michael Driscoll, President, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), Dr. Lara Luetkehans, Provost and VP of Academic Affairs, IUP, Envoy Ms. Kanika Chaudhary were present.

What is the news?
- Chief Minister inaugurated the second Silk Seed Production Center of the state at Thunag in Seraj Assembly Constituency in district Mandi to meet the need of silk, seed production in Himachal Pradesh and to strengthen the economy of sericulture farmers.
Where is the first Silk Seed Production Center of the state?
- Palampur, the first Silk Seed Production Center of the state.
Chief Minister said:
- 12 thousand farmers of the state were involved in sericulture.
- To meet the requirement of 7500 ounces of silk for the state, 2500 ounces of silk were being produced by Palampur, the first Silk Seed Production Center of the state and the remaining 5000 ounces of silk would now be met by the Thunag Silk Seed Production Center which will help in the production of silk, which was earlier being imported.

What is the news?
- Preparations have been completed for the state level Margul festival being celebrated from May 18 to 20 in Udaipur sub-division of Lahaul-Spiti district.
About Festival:
- A three-day-long festival “Margul Utsav” will be celebrated at Udaipur in Lahaul-Spiti district from May 18 to 20 to promote and showcase the rich tribal heritage of Himachal, an official said.
- Artists from all the tribal areas of Himachal including Lahaul, Spiti, Pangi, Bharmaur and Kinnaur will present their folk dances, music, folk dress, ornaments, cuisines and many more. The purpose is to attract a large number of tourists and promote cultural tourism besides preserving it.
- Traditional games like chooh gumza, thippu, chholo, bangtahar and langten will be played as competition. Local cuisines and traditional dances, which are close to extinction, will entertain the tourists.
- Some short movies filmed in Lahaul valley in different seasons will also be released during the Margul utsav festival under Lajawab Lahaul campaign. The short films will encourage tourists to visit the valley in different seasons.
