What is the news?
- In the latest CRS data for 2020, Himachal has improved its sex ratio at birth(SRB) to 936.
Earlier Data of 2019:
- The National Family Health Survey-5 (2019) released in December last year found Himachal, along with Goa and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, to be among the only three states with SRB below 900.
Latest Report:
- In the latest CRS data for 2020, Himachal has improved its SRB to 936, attaining the trend it posted in the National Family Health Survey-4 (2015), which put the state’s SRB at 937. Goa’s SRB is now 947. It was below-900, as per the NFHS-5 (2019). As per the Civil Registration System Report (CRS report)-2020, the only two states with below-900 SRB are Manipur (880) and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (898).
- Demographers say the SRB trend needs to improve further considering the fact that the sex ratio at population level (all ages) went up significantly from 991 to 1,020 between NFHS-4 and 5, crossing the 1,000 mark for the first time ever.
What is a civil registration system in India?
- Civil Registration System (CRS) in India is the unified process of continuous, permanent and compulsory recording of the vital events (births, deaths, still births) and characteristics thereof. • The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 provides for the compulsory registration of births and deaths.
What is the sex ratio at birth?
- The sex ratio at birth refers to the number of boys born alive per 100 girls born alive.

What is the news?
- Shimla: Satyen Vaidya becomes permanent judge of the High Court, the Governor will administer oath.
What is permanent judge?
- They are called Permanent Judges because they are required to sit on every appeal committee and court case relating to the Court of Final Appeal, and distinguish them from other part-time jurists who also sit on the top court, known as Non-Permanent Judges.
Appointment of HC Judges
The judges of a high court are appointed by the President.
The Chief Justice shall be appointed by the President after consultation with the Chief Justice of India and the Governor of the State in question.
When appointing other judges, the Chief Justice of the relevant High Court is also consulted.
In the case of a Common High Court for two or more States, the President shall consult the governors of all the States concerned.

What is the news?
- Dairy Center of Excellence: Robots prepared with Danish technology will take care of animals in Basal, Himachal, sign MoU.
It is in which district?
- Basal village is located in Una tehsil of Una district in Himachal Pradesh, India.
MoU in this regard was signed between:
- MoU in this regard was signed between the two countries during the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Denmark. Robots will look after the animals in this center.
Why important?
- These robots will be made from Danish technology. 44.12 crore, this center will be the first dairy center of excellence in North India. Modern machines will also be used for other works in the center.
How this will work?
- In this center all the work will be fully automated. Robots will do all the work from milking the cows to cleaning them, picking up dung etc. Here the cattle farmers will also get the facility of training in modern animal husbandry.
- A Center of Excellence will also be established here with the help of the Danish government to provide high quality cows, promote milk production and provide modern animal husbandry training to the farmers.
