Topic: Memorandum of Understanding for Skills Development.

What is the news?

  • Skill Development Corporation: 1,800 youth of Himachal will get free training, agreement with the undertaking.

 

With whom has the agreement been signed?

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Skill Development Corporation and EdCIL India, a Government of India undertaking, on Wednesday for imparting training in the Information Technology and Tourism sector.

 

Where will the training centers be established?

  • It will be in Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra and Chamba districts.

 

What did they share?

  • He said that EdCIL India Limited is a Public Sector Undertaking in India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Education. The company provides management and consultancy services in all areas of education both in India and abroad. This high value course is sponsored by the corporation and will be free of cost for the selected candidates. He informed that short term training centers for IT courses would be set up in Solan and Sirmaur districts. Most of the training will take place in Kangra and Chamba districts.
  • EdCIL will motivate Himachali youth for training through public notices, advertisements. Courseware will be provided as per the norms defined for the courses. Trainers will be appointed. The facility to conduct the assessment will be provided. Guidance for award of certification and placement will also be done. Himachali youth who are willing to take short term training in IT-ITES sector and RPL training in tourism and hospitality sectors. You can apply for these courses.

Topic: Horticulture census in Himachal Pradesh

What is the news?

  • A Horticulture Census in Himachal Pradesh continues at a late pace, apple growers upset.

 

Challenges shared:

  • The horticultural census underway in the state is taking place at a snail’s pace. The agency responsible for the task has not “met the deadlines” and the Department of Horticulture could use another organization to complete the exercise. Apple farmers are upset about the delay in the census.
  • How is the department going to frame the policies required for such an important area if it does not even have up-to-date data? So, the current census must be completed as early as possible.

 

Census of Horticulture carried out over how many years?

  • The census was being conducted after over 30 years. The exercise was last done in 1989.

 

Who will conduct?

  • Last year, the Horticulture Department signed an MoU with the Common Service Centre (CSC) for the census detailed and updated information on the horticultural land and associated activities in the state.
  • The CSC was to conduct the survey in all 12 districts of the state, starting with Shimla. “The agency has so far completed just around 45 per cent of the work in Shimla district.
