What is the news?

  • Kalwari Panchayat from Kullu ranked top in the Himachal.

 

Reason:

  • The Panchayat was felicitated for securing the first place in the state for providing good online facilities to villagers in inaccessible areas, at a virtual function on the National Panchayati Raj Day at Haat village near Bajaura in Banjar subdivision.
  • The National Panchayat Award-2022 for Best Gram Panchayat was received by officials with an award from Rs 6 lakh.

 

Kullu DRDA Project Officer Surjeet Singh Thakur said:

  • The selection for the award is done at the national level. He said the Panchayat had rendered better facilities online to provide ‘Parivaar Nakal’, BPL certificates and other assistance to villagers. He said earlier that people had to do many rounds in the Panchayat’s offices to get these documents. Now the state government has prepared software and has made the family register online.
  • The MLA also inaugurated the Atal Gyan Kendra in Haat panchayat. He said the Atal Gyan Kendra constructed at a cost of Rs 13 lakh in the Panchayat would prove to be a boon for the youth preparing for competitive examinations.
  • He said youth from rural areas often faced many problems with going to the city libraries. Opening libraries in villages will help youth in staying away from malpractices, he said.

What is the news?

  • The rate of crime against women is highest in Kangra.

 

Data:

  • Kangra district tops the chart with the registration of the maximum number of cases of crime against women (462) and the highest number of sexual offenders (776) while Lahaul and Spiti is the safest with six cases and eight offenders.

 

Crime involved:

  • The record of different categories of crime, including rape, unnatural sex, molestation, outraging modesty of women, obscene and indecent representation, sexual harassment, remarks, stalking, eve-teasing, besides cruelty against women, domestic violence, kidnapping, abduction and immoral trafficking of women and children is being registered and kept in the register for predictive policing.

 

Steps taken:

  • The CCTV will be installed in bus stands, railway stations, taxi stands, cinema halls, schools, colleges, main markets, temples and other significant places. Kangra is the biggest district with a huge population and, therefore, cases are more.

  • A three-day international conference on climate change ‘Dialogue for our future: A call to climate action’ concluded in McLeodganj on Sunday. Renowned climatologist Kim Stanley Robinson has an in-depth discussion on climate change with environmental activists and scientists from different parts of the world.

1) A Joint Venture Agreement for development of Greenfield airport at Nagchala in district Mandi was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia at New Delhi today. The agreement will pave way for development of airport in Mandi which is the dream project of Chief Minister.

2) Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the State Media Centre in Himachal Bhawan in New Delhi today.
