What is half-marathon?

• A half marathon is a road running event of 21.0975 kilometres (13.1094 mi) – half the distance of a marathon.
• Participation in half marathons has grown steadily since 2003, partly due to the fact that it is a challenging distance, but does not require the same level of training that a marathon does.

 

How it will benefit for Himachal Pradesh?

• To make entry into Asia Book of Records.

 

What is the Asia Book of Records?

• Asia Book of Records is a world record registrar organisation. Asia book of records registers human achievement and natural events for individual and institutions based in Asian countries.

Who is organizing this event and where it is happening?

• Kaza Administration in Lahaul & Spiti organizes a half-marathon at Komik Village.

 

When it will organize?

• August 19^th, on the occasion of Ladarcha festival and used to spread awareness about Cleanliness among tourists.

 

What is Ladarcha festival?

• Ladarcha Utsav, Spiti. The Ladarcha Fair is a popular means of celebration to the people of Spiti valley. Before the closure of the Tibetan traders, the fair used to be held at Kibbar maidan in Spit in the month of July/Aug.

 

About Komik Village:-

• The highest village in Asia situated at a height of 18,000 feet from sea level.
• Half-Marathon:- From Komik Village to Demul Village(4530 m to 4700 m from Sea level).

 

IMPORTANT:- First-ever half marathon to be organized at such a high altitude.

Eligibility:-

• Age:- 18 to 50 age
• Fees:- 1000 rupees.
• Only 150 participants will be allowed.

About Rohtang Tunnel:-

• Rohtang Tunnel is a highway tunnel being built under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway.
• At 8.8 km (5.5 mi) length, the tunnel will be one of the longest road tunnels in India and is expected to reduce the distance between Manali and Keylong by about 46 km (28.6 mi).
•  The tunnel is at an elevation of 3,100 metres (10,171 ft) whereas the Rohtang Pass is at an elevation of 3,978 metres (13,051 ft).
• The excavation of the tunnel completed in October 2017 when the blasting from south and north ends joined and the completed tunnel may open in 2019.
• The Leh–Manali Highway, one of the two routes to Ladakh, will be routed through the tunnel in 2019. The Rohtang Pass receives heavy snowfall and blizzards during winter months and is open for road traffic for only four months in a year. The tunnel will keep the highway open during the winter.
