What is the news?

  • Kangra to have 100 early landslide warning systems.
  • The district administration signs a memorandum of understanding with IIT Mandi to develop them.

Important Point:

  • The Kangra District Administration has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IIT Mandi for the development of the satellite-based subsidence system profile for the Kangra District and its adjacent zones. The system would serve as an early warning system (EWS) in case of landslides.
  • In accordance with the MOU, IIT Mandi’s mandate would be to develop machinery to predict landslides that could serve as early warning systems.

 

Why important?

  • It is for the first time that such a system would be developed in the state.

 

Key points:

  • It is the first time that such a system will be developed in the State.
  • The system will be deployed at certain sites based on an analysis of landslide vulnerability.
  • During last year’s monsoon, many people lost their lives and property due to landslides.
  • As a result, the project to develop an early warning system with the assistance of experts has been designed.

What is the news?

  • Naresh Kumari, a retired art and craft teacher and resident of Ward Number 7 of Nurpur, has been felicitated with the ‘Maharaja Sansar Chand Kala Samman’-2018.

 

Why?

  • For her outstanding contribution to the field of art and for the promotion of Chamba ‘rumal’.

 

Key points:

  • Himachal Pradesh Art, Culture and Language Academy conferred the award on the former teacher, with a citation and cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, on Saturday in its prize distribution function-2022 at Shimla. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur presented the prize to Naresh Kumari from Chamba.
  • The art and craft teacher has been promoting Chamba ‘rumal’ since 1977 and got the first prize in a state-level Chamba ‘rumal’ competition, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Art, Culture and Language Academy in 2015. She has organised exhibitions for Chamba ‘rumal’ several times in other states, with an objective to promote and conserve the art. During her service in government schools, she imparted training to five girl students with the same objective. She is also a recipient of Dr BR Ambedkar National Award in 2017 and was honoured with the National Merit Certificate Award-2017 by the Union Textile Ministry for promoting the unique Himachali art.

What is the news?

  • The two-day Ski Himalayas Alpine Premier League concluded at the Solang valley in Kullu district today. Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony.
  • Nakul Khullar, organizer of the event, said the DC gave awards to the winners of the league, in which 215 players from across the country showed their talent.
  • “In the men’s category (senior), Hira Lal was first in the giant slalom, while Yogesh Kumar was second and Kirti Kishan third. In women’s category (senior), Anchal Thakur secured the first position, while Sandhya Devi was adjudged second and Tanuja Thakur third,” he added.
  • “In junior, Sahil Thakur took first place in the giant slalom, with Nishant Thakur second and Ankit Vyas third. In the junior women’s category, Shweta Thakur got the first place, while Janat Thakur was second and Parmita Thakur third”, said Khullar.
  • The DC congratulated the winners and encouraged the players to take active part in winter sports and bring laurels to the nation. He also applauded the organizers for holding the event successfully.
