What is the news?

  • Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today inaugurated Heliport near Sanjauli-Dhalli bye-pass constructed by spending an amount of Rs. 18 crore.

 

Under which program it is constructed?

  • Government of India has provided Rs. 12.13 crore for construction of this project under Himalayan Circuit of the Swadesh Darshan program and Rs. 6 crore under UDAN-2 of Central Government.

 

Purpose:

 

  • Heliports and helipads would prove beneficial in the near feature from tourism, connectivity and emergency point of view.
  • It would also facilitate during rescue operations and in transporting patients to bigger hospitals in emergency situations.
  • Heliport would prove a boon in enhancing tourism and economic activities in Himachal Pradesh

 

Present Helipads:

  • At present there are 64 helipads in the state and 38 new helipads were being constructed by the state government.

What is the news?

  • Hemp footwear gifted by PM, Modi to Kashi temple priests made in Kullu.

 

Important:

  • The hemp fiber slippers called “pule” at Kullu are considered pure to be worn within the temples.
  • The Himachal Government is contemplating allowing controlled cultivation of cannabis, not just for the pharmaceutical industry, but also to popularize its other byproducts like hemp ropes, slippers and garments, which are in huge demand, especially abroad. However, a decision has been pending even though the locals are demanding that allowing the controlled cannabis cultivation will help them economically.
  • On the temple premises, the use of shoes, made of leather and rubber, is prohibited, but the slippers made of hemp are considered pious and priests can wear these inside temples.

What is the news?

  • Parthenium weed causes dermatitis in Himachal Pradesh: Tanda Medical College Study.

 

Who carried out this study?

  • A study conducted by Tanda Medical College’s Department of Dermatology.

 

Findings:

  • A study conducted by the Department of Dermatology, Tanda Medical College, revealed that parthenium grass is the largest cause of contact dermatitis in the Himachal.

 

Recognition:

  • Carried out on 455 patients over a period of five years, the study has also been adjudicated by the Indian Dermatology Online Journal (IDOJ) as the best original article on the IDOJ awards 2021.

 

Objective of the study:

  • The study was designed to assess the clinical and occupational profile and common allergens in patients with occupational contact dermatitis. For this purpose, the records of 455 patients aged 18-85 years with allergic contact dermatitis were analyzed retrospectively.
  • Findings indicate that in 58% of cases, dermatitis was caused in patients by contact with parthenium. Most of the people affected were farmers who came into contact with the weed. In addition, home manufacturers represent 27.9% of total cases, office employees 24.6% and construction workers 4.6%.
  • The study showed that airborne dermatitis was induced in 27.7% of cases, acral dermatitis in 14.1% of cases and hand dermatitis in 12.9% of cases. Hair colorants, shoe chips and shaving cream also produced positive reactions.

 

What is Parthenium Weed?

  • Parthenium hysterophorus is a flowering plant species from the asteraceae family. It originates from the American tropics. Common names include Santa-Maria, Santa Maria Feverfew, Whitetop weed, and famine weed. In India, it is locally known as carrot grass, congress grass or Gajar Ghas.
