News:-Farmers’ demands accepted.
Context:-Keeping in view the demand and suggestions of farmers, the state government has included the provision of barbed wires, channel link, composite wires under ‘Mukhya Mantri Khet Sanrakshan Yojana’.
What has been included?
- Under this scheme, a provision of 50 per cent subsidy for barbed wires, channel link and 70 per cent for composite fences has been made to help farmers protect their crops from stray animals, wild animals and monkeys in the state.
- Farmers would continue to get 80 per cent subsidy in an individual case and 85 per cent in the group for installing solar energy flow fence system. The farmers will be given 80 per cent subsidy for installing solar-powered fencing. He said that the department has shortlisted 27 efficient service provider companies for solar-powered fencing and the beneficiary can voluntarily choose one of these companies.
Budget 2019-2020:-
- Budget provision of Rs 35 crore has been made for the financial year 2019-20 under this scheme.

News:- Mandi’s historic fort crumbling due to neglect.
Context:-The existence of historic Kamlah Fort is at stake due to its poor upkeep. Located in the Dharampur Assembly segment of Mandi district, the historic items of the fort are missing, while walls are shattered.

Historical Background:-
- The Mandi kingdom depended on its forts for security. Mandi is, in fact, a repository of 360 forts built over time from the rule of Suraj Sen to that of Ishvari Sen (1788–1826). Maharaja Ranjit Singh attacked the fort in 1830. It was destroyed in 1840. Retaken a few years later, it was reconstructed by Mandi King.
- A cave known as Rani Ki Gufa in the fort was made to hide the queen during the war, which is now in a dilapidated condition.
Local residents demanded restoration, why?
- If the fort is developed for tourism purpose, it would attract a large number of people from across the country because of its historical importance.

News:-Rs 1,660 crores to be spent on forestry.
Context:-Government would spend Rs 1,660.72 crore to increase forest cover. The government had received the fund under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority.
What is the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA)?
- Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) are meant to promote afforestation and regeneration activities as a way of compensating for forest land diverted to non-forest uses.

How the money will be spent?
- We will spend Rs 1660.72 crore on tree plantation, soil and water conservation and sterilisation of monkeys. Under the project, employment opportunities will be provided to people and they will be engaged in forestry.
