What is the news?
- 14-year-old Mannat Baniyal, a resident of the Chamba district, who won the gold medal while playing on a national level in Judo Karate in Uttarakhand.
- Mannat, along with Himachal Pradesh, has won a gold medal, achieving a new record by illuminating the name of her Chamba district.
- After winning the gold medal at the national level in Judo Karate, Mannat has now been selected at the international level and in the next new year, Mannat is going to represent Judo Karate at the international level on behalf of Himachal.

What is the Scheme?
- HP Medha Protsahan Yojana 2021.
It is related to?
- Education.
Purpose:
- For providing assistance until Rs. 1 lakh to class 12th & college meritorious students for all competitive examinations conducted by UPSC & SSC and for preparation of NEET, IIT-JEE, AIIMS, CLAT, AFMC exams, expert faculty to provide guidance at coaching centers located inside or outside the state.
Vision:
- HP Medha Protsahan Yojana will ensure that meritorious students do not find any difficulty in preparing for exams and in building their career due to lack of money. Counseling will be provided to all students through expert faculty in coaching centers located in or outside the state, as a blessing for all students in poor and economically weaker sections.
- In the current FY 2021, the state government has allocated a budget of Rs. 5 crore.
- The state government focuses on coaching meritorious poor students so that every student is admitted to reputable higher education institutions across the country.
HP Medha Protsahan Yojana 2021 Eligibility:
- All candidates who wish to apply online for the HP Medha Protsahan Yojana must fulfill the eligibility criteria listed below:-
- The candidate applying under Medha Protsahan Yojana should be a bonafide Himachali.
- The candidate’s total family income is expected to be less than 2.50 lakh per year and not double the income below the poverty line.
- Under this scheme, successful applicants would receive a maximum of one lakh of rupees once in a lifetime. The candidates can utilize this financial assistance for institution fees, books etc. while preparing for competitive exams.

What is the Scheme?
- Mukhyamantri Startup Yojana.
It is related to?
- Self Employment.
Purpose:
- The main objective of the Chief Minister Startup Scheme launched by the Himachal government is to motivate youth to provide employment instead of seeking employment.
- To set up enterprises under this scheme, the youth are getting great benefits from the scheme. Himachal government has given the benefit of Rs 1.69 crore to about 100 beneficiaries.

What is the news?
- The Himachal industry is struggling to keep pace in spite of improved infrastructure.
- Infrastructure development for the industrial sector in Himachal received a major boost this year with several projects, including Rs 5,000 crore medical device park, having been sanctioned by the Centre.
Reason:
- Industrial production also managed to keep pace after a slow start, due to COVID-19 restrictions in various groups.
The government’s focus on infrastructure development has led to positive outcomes:
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation is installing a grain-based ethanol plant in the Una district worth 400 Rs crore for which the land was allocated.
- A tool room worth Rs 17 crore has received an in-principle approval from the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and is being set up in the Tahliwal industrial area. This is the first cluster development project of its kind across the state.
- A competitive proposal for setting up a bulk drug park in Una district was also submitted before the Centre though its approval is awaited.
HIMACHAL RANKINGS:
- Himachal Pradesh is ranked 19th in the overall export preparedness and 3rd in Himalayan states.
- Based on Udyam Registration data up to June 30, the State ranks 22nd in the number of MSMEs, with an overall share of 0.46% nationally.
