What is the news?
- Agriculture Minister Virender Kanwar today laid the foundation stone for a dam designed to store rainwater in Kothi village in Bangana. An amount of Rs 60.32 lakh will be spent on the facility, which will irrigate 10 hectares of land.
Important:
- Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project, funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency, would be implemented soon and a sum of Rs 1,004 crore would be spent on boosting crop diversification, sprucing up infrastructure and bringing new technology.
About Rainwater Harvesting:
- Rainwater harvesting system, also called rain water collection system or rainwater collection system, technology that collects and stores rainwater for human use.
- Rainwater harvesting systems range from simple rain barrels to more elaborate structures with pumps, tanks, and purification systems.
- Non-potable water may be used to irrigate landscaping, rinse toilets, wash cars, or wash clothing, and it may even be purified for human consumption.
- With water scarcity a pressing problem for many densely populated regions, rainwater harvesting systems can supply households and businesses with water for use in dry seasons and lessen the demand on municipal systems.
