What is the news?

  • The president of Tibetan government-in-exile Lobsang Sangay, while invited to Whitehouse on the USA, has stated that the US government has recognized their government-in-exile and also discussed the ”One China policy”.

 

What is Tibetan government-in-exile?

  • In 1949 the People’s Liberation Army of China marched into Tibet’s northeastern province of  Kham and Amdo, thus setting in motion the forcible occupation of the country. As a result, its young leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama was moved to India in 1959. Tibetan National Uprising in March 1959 was also crushed. Around 80,000 Tibetans, sought refuge in India, Nepal and Bhutan.
  • On April 29, 1959, His Holiness Dalai Lama established the Tibetan exile administration in the north Indian hill station of Mussoorie (today in Uttarakhand) and named it Central Tibetan Administration.
  • In May 1960, the Central Tibetan Administration was moved to Dharamsala, situated in Himachal Pradesh. On September 2, 1960, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile came into being.
  • Since, 1960 the headquarter and parliament of the Tibetan government-in-exile is situated in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

 

What is the meaning of Dalai Lama?

  • According to Tibetan Buddhists, the Dalai Lamas are the manifestations of Avalokiteshvara or Chenrezig who was the Bodhisattva of Compassion and the patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are realized beings, inspired by the wish to attain complete enlightenment, who have vowed to be reborn in the world to help all living beings.
  • The present Dalai Lama is the 14th Dalai Lama. His name is Tenzin Gyatso. He is the spiritual leader of Tibet. He was born on 6 July 1935, to a farming family, in a small hamlet located in Taktser, Amdo, northeastern Tibet.

 

What is One china policy?

  • The one china policy can be traced back to 1949 with the end of the Chinese civil war. The defeated Nationalists, also known as the Kuomintang, moved to Taiwan and made it their seat of government while the victorious Communists began ruling the mainland as the People’s Republic of China. Both sides said they represented all of China. But, china did not recognize Taiwan. Since then China’s ruling Communist Party has threatened to use force if Taiwan ever formally declares independence.
  • It is the top condition for the countries who relations with china to recognize Taiwan as Chinese territory under one china policy.

  • HPU Professor Mahavir Singh listed among top 2% world scientists by Stanford University, USA.

 

For what work he goes to this honour?

  • He got recognization for his hard work in the field of Immunology. Other than Prof. Mahavir Singh, there are three other scientists from India.
  • His field of interest is Nano Technology, by using them for various biological cells, enzymes, etc. He has collaborated with many foreign universities also.

What is Nano Technology?

  • It’s the modern technology which works on Nanoscale 10-9 nm. Its utilization is in medicine, industries, etc. Magnetic nanoparticles are also used to treat cancer cells and other ailments without disturbing normal cells.
