What is the news?
- The summit of Pumori in Nepal was climbed by a native of Manali.
Why in news?
- A resident of the village of Solang Manali, successfully climbed the top of Pumori, located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalaya.
- Hem Raj established a national record by climbing the mountain with Stanzin Norboo from Ladakh.
- There were four climbers along with two women and four Sherpas.
About Pumori peak:
- Pumori, meaning “the Mountain Daughter” in Sherpa language.
- Pumori is 8 kilometers west of Everest Mountain.
- It is a mountain at the Nepal-China border with 7.161 m above sea level.
- Pumori was first ascended on 17 May 1962 by Gerhard Lenser in a German-Swiss expedition.
