WHAT IS THE NEWS?

• In an extraordinary accomplishment, Shimla’s Piyush Chauhan applied for eight patents for his innovations.

 

WHY IN NEWS?

• Piyush Chauhan, is pursuing his masters in computer designing, manufacturing and robotics from the Chandigarh University.
• He has developed innovative devices in 3D printing, automotive and biomedical sectors and has filed eight patents to this effect.

 

FACTS:

• His innovations include non-rotating card holder apparatus, vehicle occupant supporting apparatus, cloth drying apparatus, liquid dispensing device for 3D printers, filament feeding device, patient immobilisation apparatus, automobile defogging apparatus and fins straightening device

WHAT IS THE NEWS?

• Himachal is facing new records of drought. The rain deficit is affecting the irrigation and drinking facilities.

 

WHY IN NEWS?

• 62 per cent deficit rainfall in March and 69 per cent deficit rainfall in winter.
• The monsoon deficit was 26%, whereas the monsoon deficit was 15%.
• A drought like situation is looming over the state in the coming months.

 

FACTS:

• The state has recorded 41.7 mm rainfall in March, normal is 110.9 mm which is a deficit of 62 per cent.
• District wise deficit was 84% in Kangra, Hamirpur 79%, Sirmaur 77%, Bilaspur 74%, Una 71% and Solan 67%.

• Bhagsunag’s waterfall attraction dries under excessive exploitation.

 

WHY IN NEWS?

• Almost dried waterfall that was once tourist attraction is said to be dried up due to the overexploitation of water from the stream feeding the waterfall by the IPH department and others.

 

FACTS:

• Bhagsu waterfall was very popular with the tourists and the most famous ‘selfie point’ at upper Dharamsala.
• Nearly 12 lakh liter of water is being drawn daily for supply to the Army and the IPH Department from the stream feeding the waterfall.
