Why are we celebrating the International Day Against Child Labour?
- The reason June 12 is marked as World Day Against Child Labour is to bring attention to the problem of child labour and to find ways to eradicate it or fight against it. It serves to raise awareness of the harmful mental and physical problems faced by children forced into forced labour.
Important:
- According to a latest report by the ILO and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), child labour has increased to 160 million worldwide.
Theme 2021:
- World Day Against Child Labour 2021 theme: This year, the theme of World Day Against Child Labour is ‘Act Now: End Child Labour’.
Who launched this?
- The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 to focus attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it.
Headquarters of International Labour Organization (ILO):
- The International Labour Office in Geneva, Switzerland, composed of the Permanent Secretariat and professional staff, manages day-to-day operations under the supervision of an appointed Director General. The ILO has international officials and technical assistance specialists working in countries all over the world.
