Indu Goswami BJP’s nominee for RS seat.
About Indu Goswami:-
- The former president of the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Morcha quit the post in July last year. She also contested the Assembly elections in 2017 from Palampur but did not win.
- She also remained chairperson of the State Women Commission Himachal Pradesh from 1998-2000 and chairperson of the State Social Welfare Board Himachal Pradesh from 2000-2003.
How Rajya Sabhi members to be elected?
- Rajya Sabha MPs are elected by the electoral college of the elected members of the State Assembly with a system of proportional representation by a single transferable vote.
- Unlike membership to the Lok Sabha, membership to the Rajya Sabha is permanent for a term of six years and cannot be dissolved at any time.
What is the single transferable vote (STV)?
- STV is a proportional voting system designed to achieve or closely approach proportional representation through voters ranking candidates in multi-seat organizations or constituencies (voting districts). (refer M. Laxmikanth)
