Topic:- Ferozepur town, once brimming with prosperity and history, now lies in abeyance.

About Ferozepur:-

  • Firozpur, also known as Firojpur or Ferozepur, is a city on the banks of the Sutlej River in Firozpur District, Punjab, India.
  •  It was founded by Sultan Firoz Shah Tughluq, a ruler of the Tughluq dynasty, who reigned over the Sultanate of Delhi from 1351 to 1388.

Issues with the city of Ferozepur:-

  • Lack of employment and business opportunities.
  • The exodus of youth to foreign countries.
  • Closing or Hussainiwala – Lahore border, which used to be the lifeline of the city.
  • It was closed after the 1971 war.
  • Creation of Fazilka as a new district has further dented its economic prospects.
  • The tourism sector also faced immense problems as historic monuments are facing neglect.
  • The places such as Anglo – Sikh war museum, Saragarhi memorial etc were facing neglect.

What steps can be taken:-

  • A submission could be undertaken to revive the town by allotting more finances to the district.
  • Agricultural diversification measures should be stepped up.
  • World-class resorts and hotels to shore up tourism sector.
  •   Quality Universities and educational institutions to attract more youth.
  • Better hospitals and healthcare for the people.
  • Better governance by promoting digital governance.
  • Proper water and sanitation services through Swachh Bharat Mission.
  • Better policing through Technologically sound equipment and training of the forces.
