Editorial on rise in Dengue cases in Ludhiana.
Ludhiana holds the dubious distinction of recording the maximum dengue cases this year(2019).
- Around 8956 cases have been recorded this year in Punjab.
- In 2017, more than 14000 cases were recorded across the state.
Health experts have lamented that all four strains of Dengue are present in the state of Punjab. These strains are:-
- DENV-1
- DENV-2
- DENV-3
- DENV-4.
- It is being said by the experts that herd immunity can be developed against all the four strains of Dengue in the course of 3 to 5 years.
- Though, a significant drop in dengue cases has been seen.( Around 39-35%).
- Ludhiana has recorded around 1286 cases of dengue this year, which is a great increase in the region.
- Gurdaspur has also witnessed an increase in the number of dengue cases.
About Dengue:-
- Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection.
- Dengue virus is transmitted by female mosquitoes mainly of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Ae. albopictus.
- Dengue is caused by a virus of the Flaviviridae family.
