Punjab bags 5 th rank in recovering fines on food safety violations.
- The food safety department of the state has recovered more than rupees 1.57 crore from the violaters.
- Uttar Pradesh has stood first in this rankings, followed by Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
- Uttar Pradesh has recovered around rupees 15.89 crores for the purpose of food safety against the violators.
Punjab status about the report:-
- Punjab has claimed a higher number of substandard food samples and products with labelling defects.
- The cases of misleading claims are also higher in Punjab as compared to the National average.
- But Punjab has posted a lower percentage of unsafe food samples.
- Around 0.8 % of the food samples tested unsafe.
- And 16.9% and 15.55 % of the samples have been found substandard and label defects respectively ( with misleading claims).
- Punjab lodged for more civil cases for food safety standards. Violation than criminal.
The report was released by apex food regulatory body, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India ( FSSAI).
About FSSAI:-
- FSSAI is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
- The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India.
- The FSSAI has its headquarters at New Delhi. The authority also has 6 regional offices located in Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai, Kolkata, Cochin, and Chennai.
