Food wastage contribution to Green House effects.

Finland innovative solution to reduce Green House Gas:- Study by World Economic Forum.

• Every morning & evening, Finland come up with “HAPPY HOUR”.

So let’s understand about HAPPY HOUR?

• Happy Hour is an innovative idea of Finland Supermarket in which more 200 supermarkets run an open discount of 30 to 60% on food items which are closer to the expiry date.
• During the day, S-market reduces the price of short-date meat, fish and vegetables by 30%. But come at 9 pm, prices are cut by 60%.
• The chain is aiming for a 15% reduction in food loss by 2020.

Impact due to this step:-

• 10 % of food wastage reduced.
• 70 million food products saved every year from wastage.

Concern:-

• 1/3 rd of food produced is never eaten throughout the world.
• These food items when rotten produce Methane gas which contributes to 8-10 % to Green House Gas Emissions.
• Methane is 25% more potent than Carbon Dioxide.
• Too Good to Go, which works with shops, bakeries and restaurants, says it has rescued more than 23 million meals since its launch in 2016, avoiding almost 58,000 tonnes of CO2 entering the atmosphere.

ग्रीन हाउस प्रभाव में खाद्य अपव्यय योगदान: –

• ग्रीन हाउस गैस को कम करने के लिए फिनलैंड का अभिनव समाधान: – विश्व आर्थिक मंच द्वारा अध्ययन।
• हर सुबह और शाम, फ़िनलैंड “खुश घंटे” के साथ आता है।

तो आइये समझते हैं HAPPY HOUR के बारे में?

• हैप्पी आवर फ़िनलैंड सुपरमार्केट का एक अभिनव विचार है जिसमें 200 से अधिक सुपरमार्केट खाद्य पदार्थों पर 30 से 60% की खुली छूट चलाते हैं जो समाप्ति की तारीख के करीब हैं।
• दिन के दौरान, एस-मार्केट में शॉर्ट-डेट मांस, मछली और सब्जियों की कीमत 30% तक कम हो जाती है। लेकिन रात 9 बजे आते हैं, कीमतों में 60% की कटौती की जाती है। श्रृंखला 2020 तक खाद्य हानि में 15% की कमी का लक्ष्य है। इस कदम के कारण प्रभाव: – 10% खाद्य अपव्यय कम हुआ। 70 मिलियन खाद्य उत्पादों को हर साल अपव्यय से बचाया।

चिंता:- 

• उत्पादित खाद्य का 1/3 हिस्सा दुनिया भर में कभी नहीं खाया जाता है।
•  जब सड़े हुए मीथेन गैस का उत्पादन होता है तो ये खाद्य पदार्थ ग्रीन हाउस गैस उत्सर्जन में 8-10% का योगदान करते हैं।
•  मीथेन कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड की तुलना में 25% अधिक शक्तिशाली है।
•  टू गुड टू गो, जो दुकानों, बेकरी और रेस्तरां के साथ काम करता है, का कहना है कि 2016 में लॉन्च के बाद से 23 मिलियन से अधिक भोजन को बचाया है, लगभग 58,000 टन सीओ 2 वातावरण में प्रवेश करने से बचता है।
