News:-Rohtang tunnel to have 3D effects.

 

Context:-chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today said the Rohtang tunnel, to be built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore, would be equipped with 3D technology. It would take around 15 minutes to cross the 8.9-km tunnel.

 

What is 3D technology in the Tunnel?

  • When visitors will go inside the tunnel,they will feel like they are passing through mountains, glaciers etc.This is a 3D effect.

 

IMPORTANT:-

  • The tunnel will be the first in the country to be equipped with 3D technology.

News:-Norms eased to attract investors.

 

Context:-In order to ease cumbersome permission procedures, the state government has decided to do away with the practice of field inspection and obtaining NOCs underwater and air pollution Acts from panchayats for setting up of green and orange category industries.

 

Purpose:-

  • The entire exercise is aimed at creating an investor-friendly environment so that industry bigwigs are encouraged to make an investment in the state, which in turn would help generate employment opportunities.

 

What changes brought?

  • The government has decided to do away with the practice of field inspection and obtaining NOCs underwater and air pollution Acts from panchayats for setting up of green and orange category industries.
  • However, the condition of seeking the nod of the panchayat for a red category industry still remains to ensure that there is no environmental degradation in the area where it has to come up.

 

What are green & orange category industries?

On 5 March 2016, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Prakash Javadekar released the four colour categorizations for industries as per the following Pollution Index (PI) score between 0 and 100:

  1. Industries with Pollution Index score of 60 and above: Red category
  2. Industries with Pollution Index score of 41 to 59: Orange category
  3. Industries with Pollution Index score of 21 to 40: Green category
  4. Industries with Pollution Index score including and up to 20: White category.
