News:-Govt clueless on the number of jobless youth, starts portal.

 

Minister statement:-

• Minister Channi says funds for allowance to be used for skill training.

 

Concern:-

• Even after more than two years since the Congress formed the government in the state, the Department of Employment Generation has no data on the total number of unemployed youth.

 

New Initiative:-

• To undertake the exercise, the department has put in place a web portal to register job seekers and is establishing a 100-seat call centre to assist and get feedback from the job seekers.

 

For Jobless:-

• On Rs 2,500 per month unemployment allowance that was announced for the jobless youth.

 

Data by Government:-

• In the last two and a half years since the department was revived, 40,000 persons have been given government jobs, 2.60 lakh private jobs and another 6 lakh has been facilitated with self-employment loans. So far, four mega job melas have been organised apart from district-level job fairs.

 

Upcoming events:-

• 5th mega job fairs across the state starting from September 9, Minister said the platform would be offering 2.10 lakh jobs in the private sector, besides facilitating self-employment loans to around 1 lakh youth.

News:- Punjab’s enormous sporting talent and to enhance the sporting infrastructure in the Maharaja Bhupindra Singh Sports University, our Government is all set to join hands with the University of Birmingham (UK).

 

University of Birmingham (UK)which is ranked amongst the top four of the British Universities and Colleges Sport league table.

 

Purpose:-

• The purpose of promoting sports in Punjab and to strengthen sports infrastructure in Punjab.
• This would help in strengthening and streamlining the academic program of the University.
