News:- India celebrated its 73^rd Independence Day.

Yesterday, Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh hoisted the flag at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar.

What is India’s Independence Day?

Independence Day is an annual celebration of the day India gained freedom from foreign rule.

Why Independence day celebrated on 15^th August?

In July 1947, the British House of Commons(Parliament) passed the Indian Independence Act, 1947 and it received the Royal clearance. August 15th – Lord Mountbatten, the Viceroy at that time, thought this date as lucky for himself. It was the same day in 1945(15th August), that the Japanese forces surrendered before him in World War II.

Indian Independence Day Significance and Celebration:-

Every year we celebrate Independence day by taking time out to reflect on what it took for our country to gain independence and how far it’s come since. The national anthem is sung and flag-raising ceremonies, drills, are conducted throughout the country. People make an effort to wear the national or their local dress to celebrate their nation and culture. Kite flying is also an Independence Day tradition, with people of all ages flying kites to represent the freedom we attained on this day.
The prime minister will take part in a flag-raising ceremony at the Red Fort in Old Delhi and a parade with members of the armed forces and police. The prime minister then delivers a speech to the country, speaking on the country’s accomplishments during the past year and outlining some of the countries goals for the future.

News:- Burning of Paddy Crops residue, which is one of major environmental(air) pollution in Areas like Punjab, Haryana, Up and Delhi-NCR, declined by 41% last year over 2016 level with the support of Central Scheme.

Name of Scheme:- “Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-Situ Management of Crop Residue in the state of Punjab, Haryana, UP and Delhi-NCR”

About Scheme:-

It is a 100% centrally share.
Subsidy on in-situ crop residue management machinery to the farmers.
Awareness Campaign using IEC(Information, Education & Communication).
Establishment of Custom Hiring Centres(CHCs)

(CHCs are basically a unit comprising a set of farm machinery, implements and equipment meant for custom hiring by farmers. Though certain implements and equipment are crop-specific, the traction units like tractors, power tillers etc.)

Ministry:- Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.

Implementing authority in states:-

At the State level, the nodal implementing agency will be the Department of Agriculture of the concerned State Government. State Level Executive Committee (SLEC) chaired by Principle Secretary (Agriculture)/ Agriculture Production Commissioner shall oversee the implementation of the scheme in their State through regular meeting and will provide inputs to Executive Committee for appropriate policy formulation. The SLEC shall ensure that no crop residue burning takes place in the farmer field.
The District Level Executive Committee shall be responsible for carrying forward the objectives of the scheme for project formulation, implementation and monitoring in the districts and will constitute Surveillance Committees involving farmers group / progressive farmers to mobilize farmers for not burning the crop residue and will also ensure active participation of Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Context:- Punjab was the worst-hit state in the country in 2018.

About Dengue:-

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical viral infection caused by the dengue virus.

Symptoms:-

Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. This may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash.

Transmission:-

The Aedes aegypti mosquito is the main vector that transmits the viruses that cause dengue. The viruses are passed on to humans through the bites of an infective female Aedes mosquito, which mainly acquires the virus while feeding on the blood of an infected person.
The full life cycle of dengue fever virus involves the role of mosquito as a transmitter (or vector) and humans as the main victim and source of infection.
