What is the news?

  • Everester Amit Negi is from Kinnaur. He climbed Mount Everest (8848.86 meters) in 2021 and was the first civilian hiker from Himachal Pradesh to climb Kanchenjunga (8546 meters) in 2022. Today, he met with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and asked for his blessings for his future plans.
  • He told the Chief Minister that he planned to climb the highest peaks this year, which are Annapurna (8091 meters), Makalu Peak (8481 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), and Dhaulagiri peak (8167 meters), starting on March 15.

  • The Chief Minister wished him luck in his new job and said that Amit Negi’s achievement had brought honor to the state and shown his courage and skill by letting him climb the highest peaks in the world.
  • The Chief Minister said that Sh. Negi was a role model for young people, especially adventurers, and he hoped that Amit would add many more feathers to his cap in the future.

Things to know:

  • Amit Negi will be the first civilian hiker from Himachal Pradesh to reach the top of Kanchenjunga (8546 meters), the world’s third highest peak, in 2022.

  • The National Youth Parliament Declaration Contest was won by Aastha Sharma, a BSc II (Medical) student at Government College, Sanjauli.

Who organized this?

  • The Central Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports put on the event on March 1 and 2 in New Delhi.

 

About Aastha Sharma:

  • Aastha, who lives in the village of Loshta in the district of Shimla, gave a speech called “Shared Future Youth in Democracy and Governance.” She had already won contests at the district and state levels before she was chosen for this youth parliament declamation contest at the national level.
